The SMART Act (H.R. 4437), backed by the Nebraska Credit Union League, advanced through the House Financial Services Committee and passed the House by voice vote. A key NCUL priority, the bill reflects ongoing advocacy with Rep. Mike Flood to ease regulatory pressure on smaller financial institutions.
The bill would give qualifying community banks and credit unions regulatory relief through streamlined exams and fewer duplicative reviews, helping them direct more time and resources to local lending and community investment.
NCUL, working with America’s Credit Unions and leagues nationwide, will continue advocating for the measure as it moves to the Senate.
