On behalf of your team at the League, I want to express our gratitude to Nebraska’s credit unions for the tremendous opportunity to serve you. I am grateful for the faith, trust, and confidence that the League Board and credit unions have placed in me and our team. The work that you do every day in the service of your members inspires and motivates us to bring our best in all that we do.

This year has been one of transitions with the retirement of Scott Sullivan after twenty-five (25) years as CEO. We value his dedicated service and look forward to his induction into the Credit Union House’s Hall of Leaders. As we look towards the future, I am grateful for the many years of experience and expertise that we have at your League with Amy Shaw, Dan Collins, Marilou Lonergan, and Melissa Mausbach. With the addition of L. James Wright as your Chief Advocacy Officer, we are poised to continue building a strong future. The League team is energized and eager to advocate for the interests of credit unions, offer training opportunities and networking events, and bring solutions that enhance credit union services. We are working to promote the economic value of credit unions by expanding growth opportunities for both credit unions and your League while engaging with local media, policymakers, industries, and the public on how credit unions are essential to the fabric of the economy.

One of the superpowers of credit unions is their cooperative spirit. This past year, we faced legislative and regulatory challenges, the likes of which we haven’t seen in decades. Through our collective voice, we defeated attempts to change the federal tax status of credit unions. We defeated attempts to reduce both interchange fees and overdraft protection fees. We ensured that credit unions and CUSO’s were put on par with banks in stablecoin legislation known as the GENIUS Act. In the Unicameral, we overcame efforts to levy additional taxes on state-chartered credit unions and we passed a bill modernizing the State Credit Union Act. We are actively working on several priorities including reduce SAR and CTR filings by credit unions, increasing the investment authority of credit unions, and achieving credit union board modernization for federal credit unions.

All these accomplishments are not possible without the strong support and engagement of Nebraska’s credit unions. United in solidarity, our best is yet to come, and we thank you for your active engagement in moving Nebraska’s credit unions forward into the future.

Sincerely,

Brandon Luetkenhaus, President/CEO
