Leading up to the 2023 CUNA GAC, I did not know what to expect from the “Crasher” program. I had my expectations, fortunately the outcome exceeded far past those expectations. The experience was tenfold what I expected. I have created connections from other young professional credit union employees from across the US, some even across the world. Those connections I know I can rely on as a resource. It was a unique time, in that having a “crasher” from each state, talking about their hardships, successes and experiences it occurred to me that we all have the same mindset and goal of people helping people. The political advocacy portion of the trip was another major highlight. The meetings with Nebraska’s Delegation heavily resonated with me the importance of political advocacy. Political advocacy should be at the forefront of importance for all Nebraska credit unions regardless of size.
This was not my first time applying to be a GAC crasher, it was my third. The saying, “Third times a charm” makes so much more sense now. So, for those out there that may have applied in the past and were unsuccessful, keep trying, it’s worth it. Many thanks to President/CEO Scott Sullivan, Chief Advocacy Officer Brandon Luetkenhaus, the Nebraska Credit Union League, and LincOne Federal Credit Union for providing me the opportunity to attend the 2023 CUNA GAC. A thank you also to those who encouraged me to keep applying, specifically Jerry Barnett, John Millington, Roger Smid, and Nate Brock.
