The Legislature\u2019s most pressing issue will be addressing a projected $471 million budget deficit.\u00a0<\/p>\nThe first ten days of the session are dedicated to new bill introduction and some floor debate of legislative bills that were carried over from the the first session. In the first week, the Legislature began the process to expel State Senator Dan McKeon (LD 41) after the Nebraska State Patrol cited him for public indecency related to an incident with a legislative staffer. After a legislative public hearing on the matter, Senator McKeon resigned and therefore avoided the possibility of him being the first state senator in Nebraska history to be expelled by the Legislature.<\/p>\n
The various committees of the Legislature have begun public hearings on newly introduced legislative bills. The Nebraska Credit Union League is reviewing the 454 bills and resolutions introduced in the first 8 days of the session with two more days of bill introduction remaining. The League plans to support legislation that will provide parity for state-chartered credit unions, include credit unions in the Nebraska Financial Innovation Act, combat various forms for financial fraud, address housing, and any other issue that might impact member credit unions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
