Credit union professionals from each of Nebraska\u2019s three Congressional Districts joined the League in hiking Capitol Hill to advocate for legislative issues important to credit \"\"unions. Representing the 1st District was Brian Christensen, President\/CEO of OneUnited FCU located in Columbus. Representing the 2nd District was Steve Swanstrom, President\/CEO of Centris FCU with locations in Omaha and surrounding areas. Representing the 3rd District was Dee Schriner, President\/CEO of Trius FCU with locations in Kearney and Lexington.\"\"<\/p>\n

While visiting with Nebraska\u2019s Congressional Delegation, they focused on legislation (H.R. 6889 \/ S. 4325) that would allow flexibility for credit union boards of directors to meet six times annually rather than the current requirement of twelve. The House Financial Services Committee passed H.R. 6889 by a voice vote the same week. The advocates also urged lawmakers to protect overdraft protection programs by opposing H.R. 4277 \/ S. 2677 which would significantly limit the number of overdrafts per year to six. Another priority issue discussed was protecting \"\"credit card programs by opposing any legislation that would aim to limit or cap interchange on credit card transactions. Senator Dick Durbin (IL) and Senator Roger Marshall (KS) are drafting legislation that could threaten credit card programs at \"\"financial institutions.<\/p>\n

In addition to meeting with Nebraska\u2019s Congressional Delegation, the group also met with NCUA Vice Chairman Kyle Hauptman to discuss regulatory issues impacting credit unions. The advocates urged greater communication between the NCUA and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) especially as it pertains to how the Bureau\u2019s rules could impact credit unions.\"\"<\/p>\n
