University of Nebraska\u2019s Dr. Jennifer Davidson posted a video<\/strong><\/span><\/a> on Credit Unions: Advancing Communities website thanking the Nebraska Credit Union League for partnering with the University of Nebraska\u2019s Council on Economic Education to fully fund a financial literacy program, \u201cPersonal Finance Institute\u201d. The institute is administered by the Council and will be held this July in Kearney, Nebraska.<\/p>\n

Dr. Davidson leads the Council which is a non-profit organization housed in the College of Business on the Lincoln campus. Dr. Davidson describes the Personal Finance Institute as an \u201cimmersive, professional development opportunity\u201d for thirty teachers from across Nebraska. Teachers are pre-tested, complete twenty hours of personal finance pre-work before going to the University of Nebraska at Kearney\u2019s campus to complete thirty-two hours of personal finance training. The aim of the program is to provide teachers with the tools that they need to teach personal finance to their students which Dr. Davidson says will pay dividends for years to come. At the end of the institute, teachers take a national certification exam.<\/p>\n

CUNA created the CU\u2019s Advancing Communities website<\/a><\/strong> in 2020 to help credit unions tell the stories of how they are directly impacting their local communities. Nebraska has its own page on the site where credit unions can easily record and post video stories of how they are improving the lives of their members just as Dr. Davidson did. Whether it\u2019s a credit union team member, volunteer, credit union member, or community partner, telling the countless impactful stories of credit unions will help to unveil how credit unions are serving their communities<\/p>\n
