The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) held its annual Government Affairs Conference (GAC) in late February with thirty-five (35) Nebraska credit union advocates attended the event. The League hosted several events during the GAC including a Welcome Reception, Nebraska Hill Staff Reception, Nebraska Advocates Dinner, and hill visits with Nebraska\u2019s Congressional Delegation.<\/p>\n
During the hill visits, Nebraska\u2019s credit union advocates focused on how their credit unions promote the financial well-being for all members. Additionally, the League promoted several bills before Congress including a bill that would allow credit union boards of directors to pass a member expulsion policy, a bill that would allow the NCUA to extend loan maturity limits from 15 to 20 years, a bill that would expand field of membership to underserved and unserved areas, a bill that would allow for board meeting flexibility from monthly meetings to bi-monthly meetings, and a bill that would change the CFPB to a five person committee.<\/p>\n
Senator Ben Sasse introduced the Credit Union Employee and Member Safety Act which would allow credit union boards of directors to pass a policy to expel disruptive or dangerous members with a vote of the board. Congressman Fortenberry has signed on to the House version of the bill.<\/p>\n
Nebraska\u2019s advocates raised over $6 thousand dollars for CULAC, the PAC of credit unions, through the raffle held during the GAC.\u00a0<\/p>\n
