{"id":2669,"date":"2019-08-16T08:53:57","date_gmt":"2019-08-16T13:53:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ncultheaffiliate.com\/?p=2669"},"modified":"2020-11-19T14:48:46","modified_gmt":"2020-11-19T19:48:46","slug":"cu-advocates-hike-the-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncultheaffiliate.com\/?p=2669","title":{"rendered":"CU Advocates Hike the Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On July 24<sup>th<\/sup>, Nebraska credit union advocates \u201chiked the hill\u201d to support the credit union federal tax exemption, push for governance updates, urge common sense in communications with members, insist on universal standards for data security, and to tell the story of how credit unions are serving their communities.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The day began with the Nebraska breakfast which is a weekly gathering of Nebraskans hosted by Nebraska\u2019s congressional delegation each Wednesday that Congress is in session.\u00a0 Attendees hear from Nebraska\u2019s three Congressmen and two U.S. Senators on what is happening that week in Washington.\u00a0 Following the breakfast, there were face-to-face meetings with Senator Deb Fischer, Senator Ben Sasse, Congressman Jeff Fortenberry, NCUA Board Member Todd Harper, Congressman Adrian Smith and Congressman Don Bacon.<\/p>\n<p>While meeting with NCUA Board Member Todd Harper, credit union advocates discussed specific ways in which credit unions in Nebraska are serving their communities including hiring bilingual staff to better serve minority communities, small dollar loans to serve financially vulnerable members, and helping those impacted by the spring floods.\u00a0 They discussed examination consistency, executive compensation flexibility, and compliance with CECL.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2670\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ncultheaffiliate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/hike-e1565963553339.jpg\" alt=\"hike\" width=\"264\" height=\"198\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pictured (Left to Right): Brandon Luetkenhaus, League; Rex Minert, Archer CU; Kevin Straub, Mutual 1<sup>st<\/sup> FCU; Peg Niedbalski, Columbus United FCU; Rep.
