Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, was a momentous a day in the credit union movement. When industry analysts and historians look at and back on Bank Transfer Day, it will undoubtedly be viewed as a turning point of credit union awareness.  With the potential of becoming an ongoing movement that has only begun to make waves, Bank Transfer Day’s full affect on credit unions remains to be seen.

For most Nebraska credit unions it was business as usual: no unmanageable influx of members and new account openings were steady. It is estimated that 140 new accounts were opened on that already infamous Saturday.  Additional affects are also being felt by Nebraska credit unions by way of dramatic rise in web traffic on and over the past weeks leading up to Bank Transfer Day.
