The Nebraska Credit Union League hosted a virtual Hike the Hill visit with Congressman Don Bacon (NE-2).  Congressman Bacon has been a strong supporter of Nebraska credit unions since being elected in 2016 with support for the credit union federal tax exemption, the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), S. 2155 the largest regulatory relief bill in decades, reform of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (ALM), and the Senior Safe Act to protect credit unions and their elder members from financial abuse.

Among the issues discussed were an update on the “state” of the credit union, support of the Paycheck Protection Small Business Forgiveness Act (H.R. 7777), opposition to a provision in the NDAA that would provide banks rent-free access to military bases, extension of the Trouble Debt Restructuring relief in the CARES Act, and lifting the cap on credit union business lending.

Congressman Bacon is up for re-election and facing strong opposition in Kara Eastman.  The race for Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District is a high priority for both major political parties including the opportunity for either Presidential candidate to win the one electoral vote that comes with winning Nebraska’s 2nd.
