On March 18th, two Nebraska credit union members were awarded $5,000 from the Nebraska “Save to Win” program. The Save To Win (STW) program first began in January of 2012 as a means to help credit union members save money while making it fun by awarding cash prizes. Since the program’s inception, more than 1,400 STW accounts have been opened by participating credit union members and they have saved more than $3 million. Gallup FCU member Jacquelyn Michals Oppegard and Omaha Police FCU member James Patterson were the lucky savers.

For every $25 a member saves each month, they receive a chance to win monthly cash prizes and a grand prize. In 2014, $43,000 in cash prizes were awarded to 273 Nebraska credit union members who saved money in their STW account. “This program is a win-win for the credit union member. They keep the savings that they’ve accumulated over the year, the interest accrued, and they get chances to win additional cash to add to their savings” said NCUL President/CEO Scott Sullivan.

In 2015, Nebraska credit unions have joined the multi-state STW program that will have more monthly and quarterly prizes awarded throughout the year. Currently, the multi-state program includes Nebraska and Michigan with other states to join in 2016. The prize pool will include 150 winners of $25 each month; 10 winners of $500 each quarter; 5 winners of $1,000 each quarter; and 1 winner of $5,000 each quarter.
