Nebraska Credit Unions Converge on Capitol Hill

CUNA-300x150

Nebraska credit union professionals joined nearly 5,000 of their colleagues from across the country in Washington DC for CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) February 8th – 12th. Twenty-five credit union staff and volunteers representing nine Nebraska credit unions made the trip to the 2015 GAC. The GAC is the largest and premier credit union legislative event of the year.

The Nebraska Credit Union League (NCUL) hosted several events for Nebraska’s advocates including a “Welcome Reception” on Sunday, “Hill Staff Reception” on Monday, Hill visits with each Nebraska congressional office, and a delegation dinner on Wednesday. Sunday’s “Welcome Reception” was sponsored by Kansas Corporate Credit Union and was held at P.J. Clarkes Restaurant. “The reception is a great way to start the GAC so that our folks can get to know each other, discuss important credit union topics, and be briefed on events during the week and our message when we go to Capitol Hill” said Brandon Luetkenhaus, Governmental Affairs Director.

The “Hill Staff” Reception was held at the Monocle Restaurant located on Capitol Hill. More than twenty staffers from Nebraska’s Congressional offices attended the event as well as U.S. Senator Ben Sasse. The reception is an opportunity for credit union advocates to meet, develop, and cultivate strong working relationships with Nebraska’s congressional staff members. “These staff members are the close advisors and gate keepers to our Congressmen and Senators. They advise them on issues important to credit unions and that’s why this reception is so important” said Scott Sullivan, NCUL President/CEO.
