Kraninger Nominated to Head CFPB

President Trump nominated Kathy Kraninger to head up the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau or CFPB. Kraninger is currently associate director for general government at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).  Critics of the nomination have pointed to her lack of experience in finance, banking regulation or consumer protection. She will face what some say will be a tough confirmation process in the United States Senate.  If confirmed by the Senate, Kraninger will take over from current acting director of the Bureau Mick Mulvaney who was appointed by President Trump to head the agency following the resignation of former director Richard Cordray.  The process to confirm Kraninger is likely to take upwards of 200 days and should her nomination be rejected, Mulvaney will continue as acting director.

Hood to Be Nominated NCUA Board

It was announced that President Trump will nominate Rodney Hood to the NCUA Board to fill the board seat currently held by Rick Metsger.  Mr. Hood served on the NCUA Board under the George W. Bush Administration and was Vice Chairman of the Board.  Mr. Hood’s nomination will still leave one seat vacant on the three person board as former Board Chair Debbie Matz’s seat is yet to be filled.  Hood will join current Chairman Mark McWatters on the NCUA Board should his nomination be approved by the United States Senate.  Hood served on the Board from 2005 – 2010.  He currently serves as responsibility manager at JPMorgan Chase.

During a special Awards Banquet at the Nebraska Credit Union League’s Annual Convention, the 2018 Volunteer Distinguished Service Award was presented to Ron Burke, Chairman of the Board of Directors at the University of Nebraska Federal Credit Union.

The following was taken from Ron’s nomination letter “Ron likes to say he was added to the University of Nebraska Board of Directors to provide the common guys perspective. He understands the powerful advantage credit unions have to make an impact in the community through financial education.”

Ron recently completed his third and final term as Chairman of the Board. During his Board tenure he oversaw the construction of a new credit union facility, was instrumental in the hiring of a new CEO and ensured the continued financial strength, stability and growth of the credit union.

“We at the Nebraska Credit Union League offer our sincere congratulations to Ron. His distinguished volunteer service has made him truly deserving of this high honor. Also during the special Awards Banquet at the Nebraska Credit Union League’s Annual Convention, the 2018 Professional Distinguished Service Award was presented to Steve Edgerton of Centris Federal Credit Union.
