Politics, Unicameral, and Regulation Highlights at Jam the Unicam

The Nebraska Credit Union League hosted its annual Jam the Unicam conference on February 10th in Lincoln. Nearly fifty credit union professionals and volunteers attended the state conference. First Nebraska Educators CU Longtime CEO Retires

Rich Kounkel has retired as the leader of First Nebraska Educators CU after 29 years of dedicated service. Rich began his credit union career at First Nebraska Educators after serving 22 years in the financial services industry. When he started at First Nebraska Educators CU the credit union was located at 4951 Center Street with approximately 10 employees and one branch located in Lincoln with 2 employees. Voting underway on new CUNA bylaws:

As you probably know CUNA’s board of directors has voted to recommend a new set of association bylaws to the membership and are urging members to vote in favor. CUNA Board Chair Susan Streifel has written to CUNA’s membership, presenting the bylaw restatement to credit unions and Leagues. Ballots were distributed Monday, Feb. 8, and the voting period purposely spans the dates of the 2016 CUNA GAC, Feb. 21-25, to provide credit unions the opportunity to discuss the bylaws and ask questions. Two dedicated bylaw breakout sessions are scheduled at CUNA GAC for 4:30-5:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, and 1:15-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23. {Read The Full Article}

League Board Supports Bylaw Amendments Allowing for Membership Choice

The Nebraska Credit Union League Board of Directors has voted to amend the association’s bylaws to explicitly allow credit unions the opportunity to choose which organizations they join. The amended bylaws will be presented to affiliated credit unions during the League Annual Meeting scheduled for June 2, 2016 in Lincoln. If approved credit unions will be able to be members of the League without becoming a member of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and vice versa. Cause Marketing: How Credit Unions Can Improve Commitment to Community

According to IEG, which produces reports about corporate sponsorships, banks are 4.5 times more likely to sponsor a cause than the average corporate sponsor (topped only by pharmaceutical companies at 6.7 and retailers at 7.6). Bank of America topped all cause sponsors, with 17% of the causes that report a financial sponsor naming it as a partner. Wells Fargo was tied for fifth highest at 12%.1 {Read The Full Article}
